Bruichladdich Black Art 11.1 released

A 24-year-old whisky from the time before Bruichladdich's renaissance.

The Black Art Editions of the Bruichladdich Distillery, which are released in small editions every year, are no longer an insider's tip, but are always awaited by a large fan community. The new Bruichladdich Black Art 11.1  is no exception.

Although Bruichladdich usually attaches great importance to transparency and gives very detailed information for all bottlings about the type and origin of the malt used, the casks and how they are stored, it is quite different with the Black Art: you don't know exactly what you are getting into when you buy this Islay whisky, because the exact recipe of the Black Art bottlings, from the malt used to the selection of the casks, is a well-kept secret.

Exploring the realms of possibility

This is the seventh Black Art to be released under the direction of Head Distiller Adam Hannet. He said that every year he welcomes the creation of Black Art with open arms. As a whisky producer, it would be liberating to have complete creative freedom, chance to dive deep into the warehouses and experiment, ask questions and explore the realms of possibility.

24 years old, the unpeated whisky is revealed to be, and so dates from the time of the closure and reopening of the Bruichladdich distillery. It was bottled without chill filtering in natural colour with 44.2% vol. and comes on the market with an RRP of 490 €.

Tasting Notes for the Bruichladdich Black Art 11.1

Dried fruit, leather and a hint of citrus immediately emerge on the nose, followed by a delicate bouquet of rosehip syrup, poached pear and sweet mango.
On the palate, dried fruit, barley sugar, a touch of leather and toasted oak give way to a velvety butterscotch sweetness, balanced with nutty praline and a hint of coconut.
The smooth finish of the single malt is harmoniously rounded and reminiscent of a rich Christmas cake with notes of sultanas, marzipan and lingering honey.
