The Islay Whisky Society has organised several high-end tastings in Scandinavia in the past (often using the services of ex-Laphroaig manager John McDougal and Swedish whisky expert Henrik Aflodal). The same team also provided the much acclaimed 3-day Whisky School weekends at Bladnoch Distillery (see www.whiskyschool.com) and at these events one of our star presenters was John Glaser from Compass Box Whisky.

Now our focus is on the creation of the world's first members-only craft-scale distillery (www.whisky.co.uk) at Ladybank which will double as a venue for future Whisky Schools. The purpose of our event, just as construction starts at Ladybank, is to bring to the Scandinavian audience an update and presentation on this project - along with, of course, a tasting of the very best (mostly, but not exclusively) Islay whiskies. Ladybank, while not close to Islay, will be producing a range of Islay-style (heavily peated) as well as more Speyside style malt whiskies.

We have chosen the charming island of Hven, equidistant between Sweden and Denmark, and the village style hotel of Backafallsbyn (www.backafallsbyn.se) as our venue; The hotel's owner ( Henric Molin ) is both a Ladybank Member and past student of The Whisky School and has future plans for his own single malt distillery adjacent to his hotel.

Small ferries make the short 30 minute crossing from both the Swedish and Danish mainland and there will be a choice of 2 Ladybank Distillery Presentations (afternoon and evening) and an evening tasting. (Those who decide to become Founding Members of Ladybank will be refunded for the cost of the tasting and ferry).

The bar at Backafallsbyn has one of the largest collections of Single Malt Whisky in Sweden.

If you would like to pre-reserve for this event, please just add your name and email here and we will be in touch with details of the booking page and to confirm any travel and accommodation requirements or questions you may have.
